Uduaghan Furious Over Projects Vandalisation Says Communities Will Be Held Accountable

MICHAEL IKEOGWU - WARRI Worried by the high level of vandalization of government projects, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State warned again that communities where projects are not protected would be held responsible.

Governor Uduaghan, while inspecting some projects yesterday in Warri area, frowned at the vandalization of some newly constructed schools and warned that government will no longer tolerate such backward act.

According to the Governor, whosefirst port of call was Ogedegbe Primary School, Warri, winners of the just concluded 2013 Channels National Kids Cup Competition, state government had spent so much in the construction of schools and other projects, notingthat it was only proper for them to be protected by benefitting communities.

“Government will longer tolerate the vandalization of its projects; communities where projects are vandalized will henceforth be heldresponsible. We have a bill in the House of Assembly that will give us power to execute that and as soon as it is ready, we will ensure that we enforce it to check the excesses of those who see government project, as somethingthat they can toil with, “he said. “Imagine some of the schools we have built recently, people are already destroying them. This is not good. It is high time communities rose up to the occasion and begin to protect government projects sited in theirarea. If we don’t take care of the projects the people will be affected because the projects are meant to serve the people.”

The Governor who also inspected the Refinery Road project being constructed by ARC, construction company, expressed satisfaction with the level of work done so far and described the road as a star project.

When asked when the Refinery Road will be commissioned, Governor Uduaghan jokingly said, “It will be commissioned during my next birthday,” and urged the contractor to speed up its completion.

Other projects inspected included, Igbudu Primary School, Dore Numa College, the beautification and expansion of Enerhen Junction rehabilitation of pipelines for the Warri Comprehensive water projects amongst others.
